The team will play its first game on new artificial turf — Alumni Field — at Lake Blue Streak Stadium when A.B. Lucas of Ontario visits for a 7:30 game.
“We really like it,” Lake head coach Jeff Durbin said. “It’s a unique product.”
Installed by ForeverLawn of Hartville, Lake’s first artificial turf is intended to be even more grasslike than most synthetic grasses.
“It’s a significant difference,” Durbin said. “It’s much denser carpet with less rubber. It looks real, plays real.”
The turf is just the latest upgrade to Lake Blue Streak Stadium, which added a press box a few seasons ago.
“It’s a very nice place to play; the setting, the press box, the field itself,” Durbin said. “It’s pretty special. If you’re a Lake player, that’s enticing. It’s kind of like a nice weight room.
It doesn’t mean you’ll have a great football program, but it certainly helps.” As part of Friday’s debut, Lake will honor the key donors and contributors at halftime. The postgame will feature a fireworks display courtesy of the Uniontown Lions Club.
